Vincent, Norman – Triton
My great-grandfather, Norman Vincent was born January 31, 1897 to William John and Elizabeth (nee Dowland) Vincnt of Triton West. At the age of 18 he enlisted in WWI. After returning from the war he married Janet Winsor on April 15, 1920 and raised 5 sons, his son Ronald served in WWII. He died on July 1, 1979 at Roberts Arm, NF.
With my great-grandfather in this photo is his childhood friend and spiritual leader, Major Levi Winsor.
I was told this photo was taken on the day that my great-grandfather left for war. At first I wondered why they held hands and then realized how emotional this photo really is. Here, great Pop is ready to go off to war, not knowing if he would be killed in action or if this would be the last time he would ever see his best friend. Levi with the same fear of the unknown yet being an officer of faith had the ability to encourage his best friend with this hand shake. War is easy for no one. Oh the emotion of this photo/event runs deep.
