Winsor, Bertram – Triton
Bertram Winsor was born to Allen and Fanny (nee Sibley) Winsor of Triton on October 11, 1917. At the age of 23 he enlisted in the Tenth Contingent of the British Navy during WWII, identification # P/JX216787. During his service he served as patroller of the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. In December 1941 Bertram lost his life while serving on board the HMS Neptune which was destroyed by enemy attack. His war marker is Panel 58, column 2 at the Portsmouth Navel Memorial Cemetery located in Hampshire United Kingdom.
Triton also erected a memorial in honour of the communities only solider to loose his life during war time. Triton's memorial was erected on a hill in the community overlooking the Winsor home.
Side Note: Bertram and his brother, Chesley Winsor enlisted together. Both were serving on the HMS Neptune until officials found out two brothers were on the ships together. Brother Chesley was transferred off the ship to serve on another ship. Not long after the transfer Bertram's ship was torpedoed and all on board were killed
