Harry ad Sam were good buddies at Mun in the 1970's.  After graduation they went their separate ways, Sam to Ontario and Harry to Fort McMurray.  30 years later they met in St. John's.  Sam had put on weight, so Harry said:  "Sam, you need to take care of yourself.  You must try to get into shape!"  Ham replied:  "I am already in shape;  round is a shape".

When I was teaching in a rural community in 1960, Joey Smallwood was the Premier of NL.  One of the questions of a mid-term exam was:  "Who is the Premier of Newfoundland?"  One answer surprised me.  The student had written:  "Mr. Splits".  When I questioned him, and gave the correct answer, he replied:  "Well, sir, my Dad says it is Mr. Splits.  That's small wood, ain't it?"

When my Dad was in Twillingate hospital, another man i the room was having kidney problems.  One morning he was served a glass of apple juice, along with his breakfast.  Being a bit of a practical joker, he decided to pour the juice into the sterilized, clear-glass urinal.  When the nurse came to check on him, she looked at the contents of the urinal and declared:  "Well, Mr. ###, that looks a bit cloudy to me!"  Whereupon, the patient said:  "Let me see that".  He looked at it for a moment and said:  "You are right!  I'd better run that through again!"  Then he drank it.  The horrified nurse said, as she departed the room:  "I'll have to report this!"  The other patients erupted in laughter.
