Shot Gun Christmas
One of my best memories that I have at Christmas time involves my grandfather and grandmother, Edgar and Bertha Hedderson of Jackson's Arm, White Bay. Everyone knows, in some places of the island, traditions are a little different than the rest of the world. Well, my grandfather, every Christmas dinner, would grab his old shotgun; ready for when grandmother's bread pudding came from the Jigg's dinner that she had been cooking on the stove. The tradition was that Pop had to shoot his gun off, outside of course, at the exact time that Nan took the pudding out, or the pudding would be soggy. It was really fun to see Nan and Pop do this and it is one of my best Christmas memories! They are gone now but the things that they shared with us will live forever, in our memories.
