Christmas in Salvage, Bonavista Bay
NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
'Twas the night before Christmas, when I was a kid,
I went to bed early, but here's what I did,
I put all of my pillows down in my bed,
When mom came to check me, here's what she said,
"My goodness, my goodness, that girl is asleep,
I worked her so hard, she must be beat,"
Then she blew out the lamp, and went on downstairs,
I waited a few minutes, and said all my prayers,
My sisters were sleeping, with hot bricks at their toes,
And I'm under the bed, with my poor body froze.
Then I crawled out in the hallway, quiet as could be,
I wanted to see Santa Claus, trimmin' our tree.
I couldn't believe it, what I saw there that night,
For a little small girl, it was quite a sight.
Yes, down in the kitchen, he was trimmin' the tree,
I could see him, but he couldn't see me.
I watched him wrap presents, and put gifts in our socks,
But I started crying, when he filled mine with Rocks.
It didn't take me long, to get back to my bed,
That's when I heard what Santa Claus said,
"Now Rosie, Now Rosie, don't tell what you saw,
And I'll take out the rocks and put in a doll."
Then I heard him explain as he got in his sled,
"Next year when I come I want you in bed."
