Old Fishermen

‘Twas our fathers and grandfathers,
that took it so bad,
because fishing for cod,
was the one life they had.

And now they just dream,
of their boats and their dories,
and tell the younger generation,
about their life in a story.

They might say that they're happy,
and that it’s part of God’s plan,
but deep down in their hearts,
they’d rather have a cod in their hand.

But, listen closely my friend,
and write their stories all down,
‘cause a few years from now,
they won’t be around.

No, they won’t be around,
and maybe neither might we,
so let's put them on paper,
