Every Fall "The Woods" are blessed with blueberries and partridgeberries
Thank goodness for it and never mind the fairies
It was a good chance for parents to buy clothes for youngsters going back to school
And for teenagers to have extra money for the fair and not to look uncool
Tarts, pies and cakes were to be made
Sitting in the warm kitchen by the fire we could have stayed
Handpicked rather than "The Picker" to be frozen
Only the plumpest, bluest, reddest to be chosen
When I have to buy blueberries now for a duff
I think how easy it was to go pick a little dipper, not so tough
Berrypicking in my younger days was once a chore
But now it’s another memory of home that I adore
