Vimy Valour
Vimy Valour

It may come as no surprise
When we think of the valour in war
To know this one is most prominent
In the annals of warfare lore

Our boys they came to fight a war
Against the formidable Huns
A terrible battle then took place
Against the rumble of guns

The Hun barrage it was so fierce
And many a lad felt fear
Till at roll call it was determined
That five hundred were left out there

Amid the mud, and stench in trenches
The fields all strewn with dead
A horrible sight to those boys’eyes
To reality of a cruel war they were led

For contributions brave they do us proud
And we shall never forget
The sacrifice so dearly made
To them we owe great debt

A tribute to the 500 brave Newfoundland Regiment lads who fell at Monchy-le-Preux during the Vimy Ridge Offensive of April 14, 1917.
