Tribute to a Canine Friend

Eleven years have spent their time
Since first you came to share our lore
Your impact felt in joy sublime
To change our lives for evermore

T’was hard to gauge O Brina friend
The impact that your going wrought
Or how you came to fully blend
With the fabric our lives sought

A loving all devoted friend
With no demand save but to be
In every way right to the end
Always and ever our company

How hard it was to see you slip
Away from us in slow decline
With no complaint, no curl of lip
Regardless of the suffering sign

And it became our duty bound
To pass you from unending stress
On to a more deserving sound
Forever peaceful, ever blessed

Why this bewildering sorrow felt
Whenever thoughts of you appear
The tears that flow so freely melt
Away our present worldly care

Cheer up you say, but it takes time
To ease the pain that sorrows pay
And bring us to a peace sublime
And all those dreadful thoughts allay

O Brina friend your memory dear
Will never fade from heart so stressed
For time you spent with us down here
We’re ever thankful ever blessed
