The Skimmer
The Skimmer

When lads were at the courting stage
One thing for sure that gave them some rage

Was the skimmer who showed up secretly at night
The peeping tom who gave them some fright

Though skimming was harmless there was no doubt
It caused lovers anxiety and put them to route

When seeking a place to secretly court,
It took energy to find a safe place for the sport

A wood pile, a wood lot, a barn or a beach
They hoped to find a solution within reach

They always appeared at the most embarrassing moment
Lovers were powerless to stop them, such a torment

But the urge to engage was powerful enough
To keep them ahead of the game but twas tough

And skimmers learned from the game that was played
How to find the good spots when their time came to engage

Now when I look back it seems nothing has changed
For skimming is still with us essentially unchanged

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Submitted By: John Cornick
