St. Thomas’ Church
St. Thomas' Church, the old "Garrison Church" in St. John's, dates back to 1836, and has a long standing connection with the military. It was lucky to survive the two great fires in the city. (Source: St. Thomas' Parish Commemorative Date Book 2000, Jesperson Press, 2000). I have fond memories of this church, and visit whenever we are in St. John's on vacation My mother's Smith ancestors attended this church since the early 1900s, when they moved from Brigus to St. John's. My earliest recollections of church services in St. John's were at St. Thomas'. Later, however, our family moved to the Anglican Cathedral, our Cornick ancestral parish ever since arriving from Dorset in the mid 1800s. John Cornick Halifax, Nova Scotia Submitted By: John Cornick
