So Close

So close, so close to meeting her
A charming poet friend
When she touched down the other day
On a flight from over the bend

I had so hoped at least to talk
But it wasn't to be, not that time anyway
Or to share a hug if she didn't mind
Maybe in the future but not that day

If we had met we'd so much to say
About respective merits of our poems
Which we have followed closely online
Some of them almost tomes

But if indeed it never happens
I will be content to exchange the thoughts
Over the electronic medium as before
At least the communication will continue as it ought
