Slipping Away
Slipping Away
Oh Molly dear I fear I fear
You are on your way back there
Back to your dear old homeland fair
In thought if not in person there
Since your mind started slipping away
Slowly leaving me behind
You are reliving all those things
From early childhood and the joy it brings
I daily see the tears well up
In those lovely eyes of yours
And wonder about your thoughts unclear
That causes your sadness to appear
It grieves me to be losing you now
For there is no contact any more
You are a ghost of your former flair
And I am left here in utter despair
And all I can do is hold you tight
And tighter and tighter to my breast
In hopes that it will stop you leaving
And put a close to my bereaving
Please know my love you will never leave me
And we will pass from this world together
With fond remembrances of a time and place
Oh so entwined in our own space
A purely imaginary poem written by a bereaving mate to a loved one slipping away with Alzheimers.
