Salt in our Veins
Salt in Our Veins

Salt is in our veins and that is for sure
As John Kennedy said we are tied to the ocean
And when we eventually go back to the sea
We go back to our roots hearts brimming with glee

A phrase well suited to all NL folk
Who for millennia have witnessed the splendour around them
The Newfoundland scene they soak up with pleasure
And have learned from an early age to treasure

The first thing that I did after returning from inland
After many a year away from the coast
Was to sit on a beach and absorb the scene
And the atmosphere was so intensely serene

The smell and sight was for me a delight
One I will always remember for sure
And now that I have settled back to my roots
My longings will now eventually bear fruits

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Submitted By: John Cornick
