Salt in Our Veins
Salt in Our Veins

No doubt for sure
As John Kennedy said
We are tied to the ocean
It's a part of our makeup
And when we go back to the sea
It's to our roots with very great glee

A term well suited to all NL folk
Who for a millennium have soaked up the salt water
The first thing I did on returning from inland
After many a year away from the coast
Was to sit on a beach and absorb the scene
I found the atmosphere so serene

A feeling back then not often felt
Since leaving home bound into cities to melt
The wide expanse of shoreline for miles
Tugged at my heartstrings producing broad smiles
Its hard to fathom why this feeling
Wells up in me so and sends me reeling

But it sure does on every occasion
When I visit my homeland so close to my heart
Reminders of childhood are everywhere
Taking me back to those days that I cherish
For sure I am one with the marine scene
And this will stay with me wherever I've been

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Submitted By: John Cornick
