Poem to a Late Friend
The battle done, the struggle’s o’re,
Now laid to rest for evermore,
May those afflicted by your deeds
Find in their hearts the grace to please
Forgive the hurt you may have deeded
And find that peace so sorely needed.
The battle done, the struggle’s o’re,
Should I have bared my feelings more
And conveyed to you dear friend
The anguish in our heart for others
In spite of arguments so plainly sound
Unable finally to turn it 'round
The battle done, the struggle’s o’re
Let time now work it’s magic lore
And lay to rest those feelings pressed
So deeply down within our breast
‘Til we at last pass on like you
To dust and fainting memory too.
A poem to my late friend who suffered from alcoholism and was never able to turn his life around.
