Painting Pictures With Words
Dear Downhome:

I have a large collection of NL books in my library which I cherish dearly. Some are dedicated to NL Poetry. The authors are particularly adept at painting beautiful pictures with words. Newfoundlanders are particularly good at that.

One particular book in my collection that I cherish is one by Arch Clarke entitled "Tunnel Vision My Memories" published by Good Tidings Press in 1999. It is a collection of over 100 poems and some narrative reflecting his growing up years in Brigus. It illustrates well the NL poets' particular penchant for crafting fine pictures with words. It is a lovely collection, and well worth the read.

I enjoy reading the "Poetic License "sections in your website and publication. In my opinion, while the poems are often not the most sophisticated, they do, in their simplicity, paint in word pictures the passion and essence of the NL soul.

Yours sincerely,

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia Submitted By: John Cornick
