Our Old Country Home
Our Old Country Home
This photo, taken in the 1970s, shows my fathers (Cyril Cornick) old country home located in Brigus Gullies. Father is standing in the doorway. Behind to the left is the old barn, and to the right a storage shed. At the time the photo was taken father was in the process of restoring the property. My mothers people (J & G Smith) who were business people in nearby Brigus in the late 1800s, owned a farm in that valley and we were interested in purchasing that property for sentimental reasons. It was tied up by multiple sons of the new owner, however, so we were unable to do so, but father purchased this property located downstream instead. I think it was built in the 1930s and owned by a Brown family. It was a beautiful spot with a small brook running in front of the property. I spent many wonderful summers there with the family and fly fished most of the nearby waters. Dad later divided the 3 acre farm and deeded portions to my brother Bob, Sister Ann and me. It was later sold to a new owner (Blackwood) who has established a lovely new summer home on the property. On yearly visits to Brigus I often drive up there to relive old memories.
