Old Friends, Old Times, Old Places
Old Friends, Old Times, Old Places
We remember now with fondness
Those dear friends of yesteryear
Who graced our lives in so special a way
That their memories are etched forever there
In our neuron centres there to stay
Those times which mean so much to us
In spite of all that has happened yearly
Over time and along the way
We hold them dear and recall them clearly
As if T’was yesterday
Those places still exist in mind
Though long since turned to dust
Indelibly etched in pictorial scene
Evoking strong emotion’s thrust
But still as sensual as the first time seen
What makes these memories so special
So easily summoned after many a year
When even things of yesterday
Are so faint and dimly clear
In a most uncertain way
Some would say it is the fact
That the young mind is so receptive
While others argue it has to do
With the closeness of perspective
That makes for such receptiveness true
But I would say it’s the biology of the brain
Those myriad of neurons so close in space
That allow free flow of pure sensation
Miraculously transformed from visual trace
To electrical impulses and then final interpretation
