Old Capital Coach Lines in the 1950s
This old photo from the Evening Telegram circa 1950 shows Capital Coach Lines buses at the terminal at the corner of Lemarchant Road and Freshwater Road in St. John’s. As a young lad growing up in St. John’s in those days, I walked by here on my way from home on Merrymeeting Road to Prince of Wales College. My great grandparents owned a small store (The Lemarchant Grocery) in the early 1900s, seen at the right, adjacent to the parked bus in the photo. Their home (Bridport House) was located immediately to the right. The store was under new ownership in 1950 when this picture was taken. I remember many pleasant rides on these buses during my childhood.
