Octagon Red and White Grocery in 1954
Octagon Red & White Grocery in 1954 I found this old picture in my files. It was taken in 1954, and is of the Octagon Red & White Grocery, located on the Topsail Highway at Octagon Pond. The Red and White chain of groceries was quite popular at the time and this one was well patronized. The proprietors were Ernest Shute and his three sons Gordon, Al and Glen. I remember as a lad when driving on weekends with my family to our summer place in Brigus Gullies we frequently stopped there to stock up on groceries. Little did I know at the time that some six years later I would marry ErnestÂ’s daughter Marie. John Cornick Halifax, Nova Scotia Submitted By: John Cornick
