Melancholy in the Happy Season

Oh that old sad feeling is back
Overwhelming me right on track

These subtle mood swings are unclear
Especially this wonderful time of year

Others may feel it as I understand
And out there of us there is quite a band

That for some reason doesn't feel jolly
We're moping around feeling melancholy

A guy that I worked with was so afflicted
At Xmas his work load increased unpredicted

In spite of all that I shake it off
And to the festive season my hat I do doff

And I force myself to partake of the season
For family and friends and that's the best reason

Deep in my psyche the answer may lie
But I can not explain it as best I may try
