Manuels Flats
On hot and hazy summer days
When want to cool and to relax
We would take respite from heat
Down o’er the hill to Manuels Flats
The path it was a steep incline
Which wound its way along the side
Of a heavily wooded slope
To grassy plain well worth the ride
And through this delta flowed a river
With muddy banks and widened sides
And here we wiled away the time
Swimming in the tepid tides
But best of all was running barefoot
Over warm and slippery grasses
And race mad through the tepid pools
Where sticklebacks lurked by the masses
If luck was yours you would avoid
Stepping on the spiny creatures
But often as not it was your lot
To suffer from their thorny features
Such was the risk but taken lightly
By boys obsessed with frolic and fun
When romping as a group together
With Hiscock, Steele and Marshall chum.
