Kindred Spirits
Kindred Spirits

Have you ever felt a feeling
Of respect and affinity for
Another person in your sphere
Who's life you so admire and revere

There may be reasons you so link
To that person far removed from you
As a case in point it could be poetry rare
Binding two as kindred spirits in that sphere

That feeling can be so intense
That it leaves one with with a fantasy
That they are linked in some sensual way
While it's really mutually held feelings holding their sway

It's like that with those singers we treat
As idols we hold so very dear
And why we're members of fan clubs elite
And why with reverence we so them treat

But it's really the songs that tweak our mood
And not so the persons doing the singing
That stirs the spirit in such a way
And holds us firmly in their sway

Or it's not the poets who influences much
Our feelings as we read their works
But the content of their poems thus
Which so very much impresses us

It's not the person as much as the content
And longing for it to come to fruition
That so affects us in this way
And causes us thus to say

Regardless of whether poetry or song
Each time we hear them it resonates
With our mood so deep down in our psyche
Reliving some long lost dream almighty

The whole thing is a mystery intense
And I should hope that someday we
Can in the end fully grasp
The full implications of it all at last

So to understand what is behind it
Will put things more into perspective
And we can really put to rest
Those feelings held close to our breast

I may sound analytic on this topic
But I will always feel the same
And that's my take on it all
Should we discuss it again next Fall

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Submitted By: John Cornick
