Kelligrews
When sun of summer time would call
And beckon to our weary soul
For respite from the summer heat
To country beaches we would roll
And one stands out among the rest
A place that children could adore
Indelibly etched forever there
Amid a young child's memory store
For Kelligrews was summer time
Away from city's busy toil
Where one could dream of ventures past
And tales of gold awaiting moil
Of Kelly’s Island's pirate gold
Of magic, wave lapped beaches cool
Of scent of pungent salt sea air
And capelin roasting in the fire
Of summers spent at Sandy Snow's
A magic place for special fun
Of hay rides on a horse-drawn cart
And smell of hay neath warming sun
Of lazy summer days spent prone
On beaches of pure granite pearl
The low sweet drum of ocean lap
And wavelets slow relentless curl
Of blazing sun and body warm
And dashes through the frigid sea
The breathless feel of icy waves
Numbing legs from foot to knee
Oh how one’s childhood memories store
Remains so vivid in the mind
And gushes forth when called upon
With nothing lost or left behind
