Independent Love
If you love make sure it's not binding
Cause this can be restrictive and that's what I'm finding
Love from the shores of your soul
And not from your innermost being
This should be your ultimate goal
Fill each other's cup but don't drink from it
Because that takes away something from the relationship
And that I don't like one bit
Share bread but don't eat from the same loaf
Because independence in love is lost in the relationship
And that's akin to kinship
Sing and dance alone together but not in absolute unity
The joy attained by so doing
Will not be restrictive in any way
And that's so good for cooing
Give your heart but not as a caregiver
To do so places conditions on the acquaintance
And that may indeed make you quiver
Only life itself
Can contain both hearts
And each heart has to live independently
And not together as one part
Love independently as pillars of a temple
To do otherwise would be restrictive for sure
And only leave you yearning for more
A whimsical poem to a hypothetical poet friend and based on writings by Kahlil Gibran entitled "Love one Another"
