How Ya Gettin On?
A simple question I heard when growing up around the Bay.I miss hearing these days.
Don’t even know if it is used today or not.
Maybe people don’t ask how you are because it might show how little they really care.
I went through Grade School and not one Teacher asked us how we are doing.
Questions such as Do you get enough to eat? Is your house heated?
Do you feel safe at home? Are you bullied at School?
You can talk anytime if you need someone to Confide in.In our day we did not have Guidance Councillors or Social Workers.
Joined the Military where a group of young Men wanted to become Soldiers.
Never had one Instructor ask how we were. You would think with so much emphasis
put on being a member of a team.It might be a good idea to know your people.
Newfoundlanders are unique because we like to Chat and most of us will talk to anybody and share with each other.
Moved home to St John’s for two Years in 2010.Worked as a Home Care Worker for a year.
It was mostly with Males in their homes.Always Welcomed me in and a Mug Up and a Chatt.
It really helped me more I believe than it did the Person I was working For.
In 2011 I worked as a Security Guard at the Airport in St John’s.Each Shift had a Supervisor who would visit each Work Site
and have a Chat.Got me to thinking what a wonderful idea.Build a relationship of familiarity with your workers.
I was much more inclined to tell a Boss if I was having work related issues than someone sending one of those Chain Messages
about caring for our well being and yet never did a site visit.
Reminds me once in the Navy had a Boss who only showed up when he wanted to yell at someone.
Then would say “If you are having a problem ,You can talk to me”.Gave a hard Pass on that one.
Next time You see a friend ask How are Ya Gettin on and mean it.
