Bishop Spencer College Reunion, 1987
Bishop Spencer College Reunion 1987

This article, which appeared in the St. Johns Evening Telegram, on Wednesday, May 6, 1987, talks about a planned reunion of former students of Bishop Spencer College to be held on June 12-14 of that year. The article also chronicled the history of the venerable old school from its opening in St. Johns in 1845 to its closing in 1972. Many ladies in St Johns and from other locations in the province were former students, including my sister Ann (Cornick) Roberts and wife Marie (Shute) Cornick. The college was operated on the old English system of education, and many of its teachers were from there. Back then the girls had to walk to and from there to the Fieldian Grounds for their gym periods, when weather permitted.

John Cornick
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Submitted By: John Cornick
