Ancestral Brigus
There is no place on earth they said
Where one can find true peace
But I have found the spot for me
That closest to that speaks
From ancient mound high up in air
With vistas all around
That overlooks the spot so dear
Where ancestors abound
O Brigus town so full of charm
That calls so strong to me
The one they say can hold your sway
And bring you to your knee
From Rattley Row to Bishop’s Beach
On to old Frog Marsh till
One comes upon the spot so dear
At foot of old Grave Hill
For here two full centuries past
Two Devon boys of Smith decree
Built homes and business alike
Cross from old Jackson’s Quay
George, master mariner with vessel fleet
And brother John of merchant bent
They plied their trades within the town
And one with the other did augment
The walk is steeped in ancient lore
Where men were men and toiled full sore
In schooners bound in quest of fish
For far flung rugged Labrador
And on safe return in fall
To waiting kinfolk, outstretched arms
Another year to feel so blessed
And time to view old Brigus’ charms
