A Piece of Newfie
O welcome, welcome to our home
You bring a piece of Newfie here
To sit and chat ‘bout things back home
Just makes me want to write this poem
Though gone this fifty years or so
I see so clear in my mind’s eye
The places and folks who did dwell
In that dear land we love so well
O tell me of the goings on
Of music, song and just plain yarning
Of times you have with those dear folk
Of kindred we so often spoke
So please now linger just a while
To stop my tears from welling up
And stay the sadness that overwhelms
And grips me 'neath these far away elms
If go you must then take with you
A piece of me to plant back there
Until my ashes they return
Once more to home in wooden urn
