Boiled Raisin Squares

1 1/2 cups raisins
2 cups water
1 3/4 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups water

Combine raisins and water in saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Drain and save 2/3 cup juice. Stir next 6 ingredients together in small bowl. Cream margarine, sugar, egg and vanilla together in large bowl. Add flour mixture, raisins and juice. Stir just to blend. Put in a greased 10" x 13" dish and bake at 350°F for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted.
