Springdale Heritage Centre
Constructed in the 1950s as a provincial courthouse, the Springdale Heritage Centre has been beautifully renovated to reflect the charm of 1850s architecture. Visitors are welcomed by colonial-style mouldings, rich hardwood flooring, and a stunning 20-foot vaulted ceiling in the main viewing gallery.
Springdale’s rich history comes to life through more than 100 professionally framed black-and-white photographs, capturing the people, places, and stories that shaped the community. The Centre is also home to one of rural Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest taxidermy displays, featuring over 60 mammals and birds native to the region.
The Springdale Heritage Centre is also home to an impressive pilot whale on display — a striking highlight of the Centre’s natural history collection. This remarkable exhibit offers visitors a close-up look at one of the North Atlantic’s most recognizable marine mammals, providing insight into the rich marine life surrounding Newfoundland and Labrador.
Displayed alongside the Centre’s extensive collection of mammals and birds, the pilot whale is a must-see feature that captures the deep connection between coastal communities and the sea.
Open Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and every second Saturday during the season, the Heritage Centre offers a fascinating glimpse into the past and a must-see experience for residents and visitors alike.
