In October, 2023, the Downhome magazine and I visited Vienna, where I rented a bike and joined my son Stephen and daughter-in-law Lynn on a two day trip to the little town of Rust. Rust is located in the Austrian state of Burgenland, and is the ideal place to observe storks and their huge nests on chimney tops. We pedaled about 4 km off our route on a gravel road to visit some white, blue-eyed donkeys, once specially bred for nobility as status symbols. Stroking their white coats was supposed to bring happiness and peace. Only a few hundred remain, and we saw some of them at Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park in Burgenland.   Submitted By: Donna Hewitt
