Polar Bears
Polar Bears
We cannot help but see the signs
Of recent change in our northern clime
Our activities bring these things to bear
And we are helpless to halt the march of time
Our North is changing before our eyes
Sea ice it is now slowly receding
The species depending on the landscape
Are having to adapt and rapidly bleeding
The polar bear that lordly creature
Its habitat now receding in range
Is helpless to sustain itself
Against the relentless march of change
Whereas in past more time was spent
On solid ice in secure pose
He now spends endless hours bathed
In ocean waters moving between the floes
What will this mean for the future of the species.
Will he be successful in coping
Or will his numbers decline to place him
In that most fearful endangered grouping
Only time will give us the answer
But we hope for him success
For demise of such a stately creature
Will leave our world’s status much less
