Abandoned Animals

Why do I feel so very sad
And tears well up sincere
To see the hurt that some folks deal
To animals in their care

These loving loyal friends so true
They know when abandoned and thus they fear
They are confused and so let down
By those they trust so dear

We may be of a mind that thinks
These friends they have no feelings
But that my friend is farthest from truth
When we have with them such dealings.

How can a master be so cruel
And act so underhand
Without a thought for their feelings hurt
For sure they understand

What makes it for me so deeply felt
I do not understand
An innate feeling so wells up
And overtakes my mind at hand

Thank God there are some folks out there
Who gather them in as they pleaded
And provide the care required
And the comfort so sorely needed
