Heavy snowfalls in the 40s

Back in the 1940s it seemed we had much heavier snowfalls than we do today. I can remember waking in the mornings after a heavy snowfall and finding snow drifts up against the doors so that it was impossible to open them, in which cases we had to exit through windows. Often snow drifts would be so high against the poles that we were warned as kids not to go near them as wires presented danger. The picture shows high snow drifts at the front of my wifeÂ’s home on Hamilton Ave in St. JohnÂ’s in 1942. Times sure have changed.
