Winnie the Pooh
White River, Ontario is Winnie the Pooh's hometown. This is where it all began on August 24, 1914. The 34th Fort Gary regiment was heading overseas to war. At the CPR station in White River the bear cub was purchased from a trapper and it became the mascot of the regiment. When the regiment went to the front line in France the mascot was given to the London Zoo. It became the feature attraction captivating many, including Christopher Robin Milne, whose dad wrote the stories. Submitted By: Violeta Cory
