Why Oh Why

When you look at us coming down the street
In a wheelchair, on crutches or canes
Our hairs white or grey & we look so old
And you wonder if someday you'll look the same

It's the veterans you're looking at
It's thousands that died, but some that came back
It's battles & battles that can't be forgot
It's thousands in foreign fields who will never come back

We fought & we died on many foreign soils
In countries too countless to name
Some came back who were lucky
But they will never be the same

What did we fight for & why did we die
In two wars so desperate & grave
Volunteers all of us, who fought two wars
Just so as we would be free & safe
