When Cod Was KIng
This is the trap skiff belonging to my father, the late Richard Kirby, Sr. and Robert Walsh (now deceased). In the trap dory towing behind was Richard Kirby, Jr. The dory was also loaded with fish, but unfortunately, is not shown. This was a common sight on this coast before the cod moratorium. Today D.F.O. claims there is a healthy cod stock in this area, 3PS, but fishermen are unable to catch their small quotas unless they fish by St. Pierre Banks, which is miles away. Submitted By: NULL
