Our three daughters have been cadets with the 2910 Army Cadet Corp in New-Wes-Valley. Here is one of the poems that Robin and Megan have written for Rememberance Day over the past few years.

We Stand and Salute

We wear the red,
Of our poppies today,
But they wore the red,
Of blood, night and day

They were men and women
Just like you and me
And they were the ones,
Who knew the meaning of free

Heavier than the rucks
They bore on their shoulders
Was the burden of war
Carried by our soldiers

They say goodbyes
To their fellow men
For some they knew
They wouldn’t see again

Never enough rest
Hardly a bite to eat
And yet they kept moving
Always on their feet.

Gunshots were fired
Clouds of smoke hung in the air
And with death at the door
Nothing could compare

They did what they knew they had to
They fought the fight
For they weren’t willing to give up
Our freedom and our rights

We laid some to rest
Marked them with a cross
Remembering those here
And all who were lost

The Soldiers of today
And those in the past
Their victories will stand
And forever will last

To all the soldiers
And all of our vets
We stand and salute
For least we forget
