Both of our children were born and raised in Nova Scotia, with a strong Newfoundland and Labrador heritage. As Nova Scotians they feel they really missing out if they don't get their trip to the 'Sugar Bush' when
the maple trees are being tapped in March.
Usually with the cold nights and warmer days
the sap runs and with so many trees tapped, the vats are full of maple sap. They can make candy on the snow as the syrup is boiled down and then freezes when it hits the cold snow.
It really is delicious!

Often the Sugar Bush people have Maple Syrup products for sale, horse and sleigh or carriage rides around the 'Sugar Bush' Trees, and the children love it.
Heather, our daughter, could not imagine
Kylee never having the experience so she
thought that being in Ontario she would get her out to the Maple Syrup Celebrations and events.
It does not happen in Calgary, but Heather is used to it from Nova Scotia. They happen to be in Ontario now so she decided it was the time Kylee learned about that little bit of Canadiana. So Kylee had her visit, loved it, and will always remember it. It really is a wonderful Canadian 'Experience'.

Kylee is the granddaughter of Bonnie and A.J.Lowe of Shoal Harbour, NL, and Pat and Joan Glavine of Port aux Basques, NL. Her Newfoundland Heritage is truly a strong one!
