Visiting ‘The Rock’
Why is it so hard to leave after 25 years of visiting my homeland
Any Newfoundlander living and working away would surely understand
With each visit I get a little more homesick each time
I leave a little bit of my heart there which feels like a crime
Many left ‘The Rock’ for financial, social or for other very good reasons
I commend and envy those “who stayed and lived through the lean years” each season
There’s a certain freedom there that is truly hard to find
It’s a mixture of peace and tranquility that is undefined
I do have a “romantic ideal of Newfoundland”
For anyone living away…they will understand~
