Visiting Newfoundland and Labrador
Compliments to the tourism industry for all those award winning Videos
on the Beautiful Scenery and what to do in Newfoundland.
As the Payne Brothers wrote in there song.
A little piece of Heaven right here in Newfoundland.
I mean the laid back lifestyle, the friendly people.
The dialects. The local music and Stories.
Best fish tacos that we had at The Edge in Trepassey.
We visited two summers ago with my wife Lola and her
Brother Larry and his wife Darlene. It was Larry and
Dar’s first visit as they are from Calgary. We had a great time.
Stayed with family in Bay Bulls.Shout out to Fabe and Cyndy.
See St John’s and Signal Hill.Toured the Irish Loop.Spent a weekend in Portugal
Cove South.Saw Whales with O’Briens in Bay Bulls.Stopped in the Drook on the way to Cape Race.
Watched Whales at St Vincent’s.Toured Conception Bay and Trinity Bay.Even spent some time
on Bell Island.Larry and Dar are World Travellers and said they would like to come back again.
Of Course we were there during a Heat Wave in Mid June 2024.The unpredictable Weather was Sunny and hot for about a week.Just lovely and Lola and myself are planning another trip in September
month.
Just a few observations from City Slickers.
Tourism says Online that the Season starts late May.So a Cafe that serves Coffee and Breakfast could be open on a Weekend in Mid June.I believe there is still some fall out from after the Cod Fishery Closed and Towns died.I only see one Gas Station open on the Irish Loop on a Sunday and it opened at Noon. The Drook is a nice Quaint little Village that was Resettled and all that remains is a few Summer Cabins.Sister In -Law was asking where the Gift Shop was.Valid point as there are some artists in the area that could be selling there work there.Even a Coffee Shop with a useable Washroom.Even Cape Race that received the first Signal from Titanic. Not Open in Mid June.Sure,It is not Tourist Season yet as we stand there with half a dozen other Tourists.I have seen Cape Race Interruptive Centre but my family from Calgary have not.The Irish Loop is a lovely drive with scenery Galore.Better use the Washroom in Ferryland as there is not one Public Washroom in 50 Miles.Expecting Mothers and Old Folks Beware.Thousands of people at St Vincents and No Traffic Guides.Just back out on the busy road closing your Eyes.Could be a new job for a Security Company such as The Commissionaires. Not enough signs about Night driving and the risk of hitting Moose or Caribou crossing.Once you leave St John’s good luck finding a home cooked meal with a real baked or mashed Potato.Got so tired of french fries,Decided to cook me own Supper.Someone asked If Newfies go to the Bathroom due to the lack of Public Washrooms. The Government could be putting some of the Big Tourism Bucks back into Modern Conveniences.I would like to Stress that we are aware of those things and we still like to visit with family and friends and relax down by the Bay.We don’t expect 5 Star Restaurants in every little Outport.Just give this O’Brien some fresh Potatoes.Potatoes probably got us here in the first Place.See Ya!
