We're talk of the Rock for many long years
We're known to party and too many beers
But, only when all the hard work is done
We like to party and have some fun.
Born on the Rock looking out to sea
I'll be here till I die
In Newfoundland you're not afraid
Of a dark and heavy sky.
It's only rain from Heaven
To water this great land
It will only clear the rivers
and leave me where I stand.
This Rock will not be washed away
By heavy rains and winds
This island has stood the test of time
Over and over again.
This haven of an island
Where majestic mountains glow
They overlook the ocean
Where the streams and rivers flow.
If you look upon the faces
You'll see the pride and joy
Where children roam so freely
While making up their toys.
We walk in the rain and reach for the sun
We stroll by the beach when evening comes
We never get bored for there's no neon lights
To shade out the moon and stars at night.
With a drink in hand a good woman and man
We'll gaze all night from an old wooden stand
At the Milky Way or the Man in the Moon
And maybe hum some forgotten tune.
A trip from one end to another
You will see the beauty within
Get all your plans together
And meet us here in the spring.
You don't want to miss the May flower
It's there when the snow melts again
It blooms by the rocks on the Barrens
As the snow fades away with the wind.
The Northern Peninsula Highway
Will guide you through mountains and see
You'll reach the tip of the island
Where meadows are deep and green.
Take a ferry to the Labrador coastline
Where the Northern Lights shine bright
In the morning you wake with the sunrise
To a beautiful heavenly sight.
The South Coast is warm and friendly
Where stories take you back in time
Small boats sail around on the ocean
All hands are welcome in town.
St. John's has a lot to offer
But, first they must screech you in
Then party forever on George St.
Where nights never seem to end.
So pack your hats and rubber bands
And leave your troubles behind
Fly to this peaceful haven
Where you'll be lost in time
You'll leave with precious memories
Forever in your mind.
