Unnamed War Poem
Submitted Aug 14/08
Ron and I met in Twillingate in July. I told him of a poem my brother wrote in 1967. I thought it would be a fitting poem to dedicate to our troops in the Armed Forces.
Stop my friend to perceive a while, those who live in death's grim smile.
Those of us who hope and pray, to ward him off for one more day.
Of those who search but cannot find, a peaceful spot within their mind
I had my love, my plans, my schemes, with doubt was fear to haunt my dreams
"We the brave" though some may boat, give no thought to our deadly host.
Be not deceived by this foolish cry, we yearn to live, we fear to die.
