Photo taken during a typical family picnic to Witless Bay Line in the summer of 1940. The truck belonged to E. Shute & Sons of St. John's, a plastering contractor (my wife's father). It was common in those days for families and relatives to go on group picnics, and usually blueberry picking was involved. The truck had a collapsible awning over top and benches on both sides to accommodate a large group. Those in the picture include:
