True to Your Roots<br /> <br /> Your roots what do they mean to you?<br /> They mean the world to me it's true<br /> Some place no importance on things of yore<br /> While others are steeped in it for sure<br /> <br /> I know some deep-rooted folks so straight<br /> And have always envied them for that trait<br /> They seem so comfortable in their skin<br /> For them it's all about closeness to kin<br /> <br /> And those who are not so ably blessed<br /> With that most enviable trait obsessed<br /> Are missing out on the best part of life<br /> With times these days so full of strife<br /> <br /> The joys I get from just recalling<br /> Seem to lift me when I'm falling<br /> The days of my youth, that fun-filled time<br /> Brings me back to a place sublime<br /> <br /> I left home early to seek fortune and fame<br /> A young gaffer with no shred of shame<br /> But the years have taught me well to yearn<br /> And now I long back there to return.<br /> <br /> With Passing years the feelings grow<br /> The need to connect, it doesn't slow<br /> It's easy for me to spend long hours<br /> Dreaming of those distant bowers<br /> <br /> Of Lakes and mountains, rivers and sea<br /> That mean so much in the world to me<br /> They haunt me till I am obsessed<br /> But oh so happy and so blessed.<br /> <br /> So never lose track of those kindred dear<br /> Keep them in mind from year to year<br /> And always keep those loved ones pressed<br /> So very tight unto your breast<br /> <br /> John Cornick<br /> Halifax, Nova Scotia<br /> <br /> My feelings about the importance of staying true to my roots.
