Trucker’s Romance
It is kind of a funny story how I met my fiance Brendan. I was a Long-haul truck driver for Keenan Transportation(out of Woodstock, N.B.) and I had just crossed the border from the US into Canada at Detroit/Windsor. I Was driving along when a blue transport passed me with Veri Trucking on the Side of the truck. Once he managed to get by me I spoke over the C.B. That He was clear to bring his rig back in. His reply to this was "Thanks by'e".
Recognizing the newfie slang I asked him what part of Newfoundland was he From? To which he replied, "What makes ya think I am from Newfoundland by'e. I was laughing quite hard at this time and it took me a minute to compose myself enough to reply, "Geez, I don't know BY'e, strongly stressing the latter. We then started talking and stopped for lunch. As fate would have it we had to go our separate ways as is the way in the trucking industry and I never caught site of him again until about a year later.
We again got together for supper and a few drinks as we both had extra time which was unusual. It would have been almost a year again since we got together again, however, this time we were smart enough to swipe phone numbers. We talked all the time! My cell phone bill was over 00.00 a couple of months! We decided that we did not want to be apart and Went to work for Sunbury Transportation driving team.
We are still together today and we own a transport that is running for Sunbury. Brendan still drives but I gave it up. We live in Waterford, N.B. (just outside Sussex). I am originally from Flower's Cove, Newfoundland, and he is from Killbride (St. John's area). We still laugh when we think of how we met. Here is a picture of us on the ferry on the way home for come home year in Flower's Cove.
