Trouting with Dad
I am a Newfoundlander currently living in Dieppe, New Brunswick. I am fortunate that my work brings me home to Newfoundland every few months. On a current trip, I spent a few days visiting my parents in Lady Cove. My dad took me in his boat to go trouting, but I think it was mainly to show off his new motor. I was more interested in taking some scenic photographs than actually fishing, but I went along with it.
I convinced him that I knew how to fly fish, but when I was put to the test, I failed miserably. It didn't help that I was wearing my brother's size 12 hip waders on my size 6 feet. I couldn't get the worm on the hook, I kept tangling the line and when I caught the hook on the bottom of the river and broke the line completely, I figured that was a sign that I should probably stick to photography.
Just as the sun was setting and we were getting ready to get back into the boat, he decided to cast his line one last time. I was able to snap this photo before he put his fishing rod away. It turned out to be my favourite and one that I will cherish for years to come. It hangs on my wall and reminds me of that perfect day on the water with my dad.
