Tribute to the Fallen
Submitted October 1, 2009
Our three daughters have been cadets with the 2910 Army Cadet Corp in New-Wes-Valley. Here is one of the poems that Robin and Megan have written for Rememberance Day over the past few years.
Tribute to the Fallen
“Get down!” was the cry
Of the soldiers at war.
Gunfire heading their way
And death knocking on their doors.
They saw the broken,
They heard the cries,
They saved whoever they could,
And did their best to survive.
They kept on fighting,
And they never stopped.
Nothing in the world
Would ever have made them give up.
Sweat poured from their brows,
They ignored their pain,
And they cried for their friends,
That they would never see again.
They were constant targets,
But they never left the fight,
Even if it meant a meal,
Or a little sleep that night.
They followed every order,
And did what they were told,
Even if it put their own lives in danger,
For they were soldiers brave and bold.
They were people,
Just like you and me,
Yet their lives were taken,
So we could be free.
We shall never forget,
The many soldiers that survived.
But we will never forget,
Those brave ones that died.
Look at your poppies,
Look at their cross,
And never forget,
All the lives that were lost.
For the meaning of sacrifice,
Was shown to us all,
This is a tribute,
To those who were willing, to take the fall.
